RABBI EVAN GOODMAN
Edgar M. Bronfman Executive Director
Rabbi Evan Goodman is the Executive Director of Santa Barbara Hillel. He loves working with college students and Santa Barbara Hillel supporters to create a dynamic “Jewish home away from home” where we explore Judaism, engage our Jewish values in the community around us, and enrich the lives of our students.
An avid hiker, Rabbi Evan can often be found on local trails - or taking a getaway to Yosemite or Tahoe. He's also a big fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. Rabbi Evan and his wife Lori are the proud parents of two sons, Ilan and Noah. Before arriving at Santa Barbara Hillel in July 2009, Rabbi Evan served for 16 years as a congregational rabbi in San Francisco and San Mateo, California, and in New Rochelle, New York.
A graduate of Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincinnati, Ohio, Rabbi Evan was ordained in 1993. He received a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from HUC-JIR in 1991, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988.
Over the years, Rabbi Goodman has been very involved in communal activities, both within the Jewish community and in inter-religious projects. He has been committed to inclusiveness, interfaith understanding, and Klal Yisrael (the unity of the Jewish people).
Currently, Rabbi Goodman serves on the Regional Advisory Board of Santa Barbara ADL and on the Taubman Symposia Program Committee. Past community leadership positions include Vice President of the Northern California Board of Rabbis, member of the Executive Board of the Pacific Association of Reform Rabbis, the Israel and Overseas Allocations Committee of the SF Jewish Community Federation and the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League, Central Pacific Region.
Hannah is so excited to join the Santa Barbara Hillel community! She grew up in the sunny suburbs of Los Angeles before spending four years as a Banana Slug at UC Santa Cruz (yes, the Banana Slug is a real mascot). Trading her flip flops and shorts for snow boots and down jackets, Hannah relocated to Boston to pursue her graduate studies at Brandeis University's Hornstein Program, receiving a dual masters degree in Jewish Professional Leadership and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. In her spare time, Hannah can be found jamming to a wide variety of music, favorites including the Grateful Dead or any classic 90s pop. Hannah is always willing and eager to chat on topics ranging from the continued influence of Mean Girls in modern culture to how to prepare for a Walking Dead-style zombie apocalypse. Hannah is looking forward to returning to the best coast, creating meaningful relationships with the students at Santa Barbara Hillel and helping others forge their own relationship to both the Hillel community and Jewish life!
